Mug to Mosaic with Kelley Knickerbocker

In the context of a "fun project" workshop, this course takes students through the mosaic equivalent of an escape room: you'll have material (your mug), four elements (tesserae, mortar, interstices, substrate), a few tools (nippers, tweezers, spatula), and just two days to design and execute an 8" square mosaic directly into mortar.
Not gonna lie, you'll feel a little challenged. But unlike an escape room, you'll have expert guidance and support all the way. And you'll gain new and deeper skills and confidence as you chop up your mug, develop your color palette, compose your design, shape your tesserae, and set those tesserae directly into mortar. Prepare to be surprised and delighted by how constraints can accelerate creativity and by what you're capable of accomplishing in just two days.
Mug criteria: the larger the better, different color/pattern on the outside than the inside. Three or more colors is ideal, and any colors/patterns will do. Bonus transformation points if your mug is seriously hideous.
